Disclosing a Diagnosis

For parents/caregivers of children/youth with autism and the professionals who support them.

What to Expect

Talking to Your Child About Their Autism Diagnosis

Sharing an autism diagnosis with your child or youth is deeply personal—and having the right tools and support can make all the difference. In this workshop, Disclosing a Diagnosis, we’ll explore the many reasons parents and caregivers may hesitate to have this conversation. Whether it’s uncertainty about your child’s age or understanding, concerns about stigma, or simply not feeling ready yourself, your reasons are valid.

This session is not about right or wrong decisions. Instead, we’ll approach the topic with openness, curiosity, and compassion. Together, we’ll reflect on common concerns, discuss suggestions and resources, and consider how and when disclosure might be helpful. You’ll also learn how professionals can support you in starting this important conversation when the time feels right.
