Student Massage Therapy Clinic at TVCC

For all TVCC clients.

What to Expect

Fanshawe College Massage Therapy students are pleased to be partnering with Thames Valley Children’s Centre (TVCC) to offer massage therapy sessions as part of a supervised clinical learning experience at TVCC, 779 Base Line Road East location.

This will be a great chance for your child to try massage therapy in a low-risk way and see how it may benefit them.

Who Will Be Working With Your Child

Your child will receive care from a Semester 5 Massage Therapy student from Fanshawe College, supported at all times by licensed Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs). All assessments and treatments are supervised to ensure your child’s safety, comfort, and well-being.

When You Arrive

  • Your child will be welcomed by the massage therapy student
  • Time will be taken to help your child feel comfortable and supported
  • The session will be explained in a calm, age-appropriate way
  • Caregivers must be able to support their child if they are transferring to the massage table

During the Treatment

  • Students will assess your child and discuss treatment goals with you; a treatment plan will be created with you for either a single session or ongoing sessions.
  • Treatments occur in an open, accessible, and child-friendly space
  • Massage is typically provided on a portable massage table, or in a wheelchair if preferred
  • Massage is performed through clothing (no oils or lotions used)
  • Sessions last approximately 15–20 minutes
  • Techniques are gentle, adaptable, and responsive to your child’s needs
  • Students closely observe verbal and non-verbal cues to guide treatment

Supervision & Safety

  • All sessions are closely supervised by licensed RMT faculty from Fanshawe College
  • Treatment is adapted or stopped at any time if a child appears or expresses being uncomfortable
  • Your child’s comfort, dignity, and individual needs are always the priority

Ongoing Visits

  • If your child attends TVCC weekly, they will ideally see the same student RMT each visit
  • Weekly sessions may provide the greatest benefit, though single sessions are also welcome
  • Caregivers may observe, ask questions, and learn simple supportive techniques if desired

Our Shared Goal

TVCC and Fanshawe College share a commitment to providing supportive, inclusive, and meaningful experiences for children and families. These sessions aim to offer a positive therapeutic experience for your child, while supporting student learning under professional supervision.
