Beyond High School: Navigating the Transition to Adulthood

for TVCC clients ages 16-21 yrs and their parents/caregivers.

What to Expect

Join the youth teams at TVCC to explore the different options and opportunities after high school. This workshop for TVCC clients ages 16-21 yrs and their caregivers will take place over two in-person sessions and includes:

Session One (Thursday, May 16th): What's Next After High School and Creating Connections.

  • For caregivers, this will include information about the different pathways after high school, TVCC and community resources to support the transition to adulthood, and an opportunity to connect and discuss with other TVCC families and staff.
  • For youth, we will do some interest exploration and discuss getting involved and making friends, paired with an art activity.

Session Two (Thursday, May 23rd): Funding, Planning, and Skills for Living.

  • For caregivers, this will include information about adult services and funding sources, supporting youth to develop life skills for adulthood, and resources.
  • For youth, we will practice practical money skills  and social skills by taking a trip to Tim Horton's.

The goals of this workshop series are to:

Inform: Provide information and resources about topics related to planning for after high school.
Connect: Provide an opportunity for both the youth and the caregiver groups to have a group discussion and build connections with each other. 
Skill build: For the youth, the opportunity to develop skills around imagining the future as well as the practical skills of ordering and paying for a meal/snack (Tim Horton’s).


Participant Criteria for Youth:

  • TVCC clients ages 16-21 yrs
  • Able to participate in group activities and discussion with minimal support; participants are welcome to have a support person present to assist them
  • Able to stay with a group during the outing to Tim Horton's
