Fitzgerald Key Colour Coding

Colour coding is used to learn word categories, to aid in locating specific symbols/words and to facilitate the development of grammar.

As new symbols/words are added, they should be consistent with the existing organization. This will make learning and using new vocabulary easier. Symbols/words should be presented in the standard organization and colour coding as follows:

  • Social (polite, apologetic, polite words) - Pink/Purple
  • People (including personal pronouns) - Yellow
  • Verbs (action words) - Green
  • Descriptive (adjectives, adverbs) - Blue
  • Nouns (places, things) - Orange
  • Miscellaneous (articles, conjunctions, prepositions, time, colours, alphabet, numbers) - Black
