What to Expect
Youth Quiet Swim is for TVCC clients ages 12 yrs + with a physical disability. It is designed to support comfort, confidence, and functional participation in water within a calm, low stimulation environment with the support of a parent/caregiver.
Sessions are participant-led, unstructured, and supported by a Recreation Therapist. Youth are encouraged to explore the water at their own pace, build comfort with movement and positioning in the pool, and develop confidence participating in aquatic environments.
The program emphasizes comfort, accessibility, and supportive transitions into aquatic participation rather than skill performance or formal swim instruction. Please note that this program is for TVCC clients and a parent/caregiver only.
Participant Criteria:
- TVCC client ages 12 yrs +
- Have a physical disability
- Have a parent/caregiver who is able to attend and support their safe participation in the water
- Able to participate safely in a pool environment (both in the water, on deck, and around others)
- For this program, parents/caregivers are required to accompany the youth in the water and on the pool deck at all times and must remain within arm’s reach, even if the participant is using a flotation device.
The parent/caregivers must:
• Be able to physically support and respond to the needs of the participant in the water
• Be comfortable moving through chest-deep water (1.2 m)
• Understand and follow pool safety expectations
If this level of caregiver comfort in the water is not possible, families are encouraged to contact tr [at] tvcc.on.ca (tr[at]tvcc[dot]on[dot]ca) to discuss alternate pool programs or supports.
The TVCC pool is 34C/93F and is 6.4m/21ft long, with a shallow end of 0.79m/2.5ft, and a deep end of 1.2m/4ft.

Participants are welcome to sign up for one or multiple dates.
Dates/Times: Monday July 13 (10-10:45 a.m.), Wednesday July 29 (4-4:45 p.m.), Wednesday August 12 (10-10:45 a.m.), Monday August 24 (4-4:45 p.m.)
