Girl Power Hour (12 yrs +)

For TVCC clients ages 12 yrs + who are female-identifying with a diagnosed physical disability.

What to Expect

Girl Power Hour is a four-week program for TVCC clients ages 12 yrs + who are female-identifying with a diagnosed physical disability. 

This program is designed to promote meaningful social connection, peer support and self-expression through accessible, interest-driven topics and education.

 This program will be facilitated by a Social Worker and Recreation Therapist. Weekly topics will include:

  • Week 1: Getting Comfortable and Connected: Build group rapport, establish a safe and supportive environment
  • Week 2: Relationships and Communication:  Explore what makes a healthy relationship (friendship or romantic relationships); discuss boundaries and strategies for promoting healthy boundaries in relationships
  • Week 3: Express Yourself:  Engage in arts-based activities to express self-identity; discuss strategies for promoting positive self-image and self-esteem
  • Week 4: Confidence, Empowerment and Looking Ahead: Reflect on group experiences and key takeaways; will provide opportunity for youth to discuss the group content and suggestions for future programming

Participant Criteria:

  • TVCC clients ages 12 years or older
  • Female-Identifying
  • Have a diagnosed physical disability
  • Able to engage safely in group activities with a 1:4 staff to client ratio. A support person is welcome if additional assistance is needed.
  • Demonstrated interest and willingness to participate in weekly topics listed above
  • Able to commit to all four weeks of group programming
