For parents/caregivers, community and therapists supporting children/youth, of all ages, with autism.
What to Expect
PART 1 - Sometimes children and youth with autism have challenging behaviours and, as a parent, it can be hard to know what to do about it.
Your child's disruptive behaviours may interfere with their daily activities and you may worry that they'll hurt themselves or others. These behaviours can certainly test a parent's patience! This presentation is an introduction into why people behave the way they do. We will explore ways to understand why your child may struggle and what you can do to help.
PART 2 - In this session, we share practical strategies for HOW TO reduce challenging behaviour and HOW TO encourage positive behaviour patterns. These strategies can help keep your child safer in new situations, can make the hardest parts of your day go more smoothly, and can reduce the possibility of harm to your child and others.
Join us for a more advanced look at Understanding Challenging Behaviour. Information and concepts in this presentation will build on learning introduced in Understanding Challenging Behaviour - Part 1.
NOTE: Attending Part 1 prior to Part 2 is highly encouraged, but not required. Both presentations will be scheduled again in coming months.
