For TVCC clients and siblings, aged 2-11 yrs, and their families who reside within London/Middlesex, Elgin, Oxford, Huron, Perth, Grey, and Bruce counties.
What to Expect
This is an inclusive play space for TVCC children/siblings, ages 2 - 11 years, and their family to play and connect. Arrive anytime during the scheduled group hours and stay for the amount of time that works best for your family.
A variety of child-led inclusive play activities will be available, including active, imaginative, and sensory play. Parents/ caregivers remain on site and are responsible for directly supporting, and supervising their child’s participation during the program and engaging in activities with their child(ren).
A Recreation Therapy team member will be on site to share information about TVCC and community recreation opportunities, answer any recreation questions you may have and provide resources on some recreation equipment used in group to foster participation, engagement and a life long interest in recreation.
Goals:
- Promote meaningful participation in recreation:
•Support children with diverse abilities and their siblings to participate in play-based recreation activities that match their interests, abilities, sensory needs, and comfort level. - Support social connection and belonging:
•Create opportunities for children, siblings, and caregivers to connect with one another through shared play, family engagement, and positive group recreation experiences. - Build caregiver capacity to support recreation participation:
•Provide parents/caregivers with ideas, strategies, equipment information, and resources that help them support their child’s participation in recreation at home, at TVCC, and in the community. - Foster leisure skill development and confidence
•Encourage children to explore different forms of play and recreation in a supportive setting, helping build confidence, engagement, and comfort with recreation participation. - Promote lifelong leisure involvement
•Introduce families to TVCC and community recreation opportunities that support continued participation, enjoyment, and a lifelong interest in recreation.
