Empowered Kids Ontario-Enfants Avenir Ontario (EKO-EAO) represents Ontario’s publicly-funded child development and rehabilitation sector. With the united voice of our members, we promote evidence-based investments, policies and programs enabling smart, innovative approaches and service delivery so kids with disabilities and their families live their best lives.
The following message was created with input from several Children's Treatment Centres and can be found on the EKO website.
Minister Smith's Ontario Austim Program announcement this morning described some important progress in the roll out of the New OAP. The most important consideration as we transition to the New OAP is to make sure care and therapy is available to all kids and families that need it, with particular attention to those kids with autism whose needs may not easily align with the program. There are still thousands of kids and their families who are waiting for service. We look forward to learning more details about the program so we can fully understand the impact on the children and families our members support, and those who will be entering service in the New OAP.
EKO is pleased to learn of further investment in the province’s five diagnostic hubs, which will improve families’ access to diagnosis and ultimately expedite children and families into service. Additionally EKO and its members have long supported the regulation of behavioural clinicians providing Applied Behaviour Analysis and the move to do so as a new profession under the College of Psychologists of Ontario is welcome news.
