Want your child/youth to be successful with everyday activities? Where there are barriers to success, our Occupational Therapists can provide strategies to build skills, modify the environment and/or use adapted tools to make the job easier for your child/youth. We will develop a personalized plan that is just right for your family. Services may be in the form of one-on-one programming or consultation.
An Occupational Therapist can help in the following areas.
- Sensory skills – learning to take in and make sense of the things we see, hear, touch, feel and smell
- Self-regulation - increasing flexibility, recognizing different emotions in yourself and others, and developing coping strategies for times of stress and frustration
- Eating and Drinking– including using utensils, chewing and swallowing and exploring or tolerating different food sensations
- Self-care routines – including toileting, dressing and hygiene
- Planning and Organization – to be ready for the responsibilities of the day
- Writing – learning to effectively use pen/pencil and paper, a keyboard or even specialized technology
- Fine Motor or Hand Skills – learning to use the tools that help us get things done. Things like a pencil, scissors, or glue
- Playing – promoting overall development. An OT can help with things like using toys and play with friends and family.
Services may vary by region, age and program.

What to Expect
We will listen to you to understand your concerns and priorities. We work with you to determine how we can best help you and your child/youth. An occupational therapist can help as a single support or as part of your service team. Each treatment starts with an assessment to better understand your child/youth’s current skill level. Following the assessment, recommendations for treatment are shared with you and sessions begin.
Services may be in the form of one-on-one programming or consultation. We will create an individualized plan that is just right for your family.
Occupational therapists are regulated health professionals registered with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
