Why do we use Splints or Casts?

  • Splinting provides a long gentle stretch to the muscle or joint to increase movement at the joint
  • Splinting provides appropriate positioning for function and ensures stability during activity

Types of Splints and Casts

Lower Extremity Splints

  • The cost for splinting is charged to cover the cost of materials only.

Serial Casting Lower Extremities

Ankle night splint               $25.00-60.00             
Soft fiberglass  $30.00-70.00 
Cast shoe  $16.00 
Aquaplast/Sandsplint  $0.45/square inch

  • A non-removable plaster and fiberglass cast is applied to provide a long gentle stretch to the muscle or joint, which will increase movement at the joint
  • Up to 4 casts may be necessary in order to achieve the desired joint range
  • This may be done in combination with Botox treatment
  • Each cast is kept on for 14 days
  • A commitment of 3-6 weeks is required

Upper Extremity Splints

Each casting           $25.00-40.00 
Each cast boot  $8.25

  • An occupational therapist may recommend a splint to maintain or improve functional position of the wrist and hand
  • Upper extremity splints can be custom made or in some cases, purchased from suppliers
  • You and your therapist will consult to make the best decision for you/your child
