IBI is a specialized service for children with a diagnosis toward the severe end of the autism spectrum. You will need a comprehensive, differential diagnostic report completed by a physician or psychologist to apply. All families are encouraged to register for and participate in “ABA-based services and supports for children and youth with ASD” before starting IBI.
Access to Service
To request IBI, please visit our intake/referral section. To participate in IBI, your child must be deemed eligible. A Psychometrist will call you to book an Eligibility Assessment for you to attend with your child.
What to Expect
You’ll get a telephone call from a Social Work team member who will speak with you about your child’s needs. If there’s another service that could be better for your child, we’ll talk with you about that.
Getting Ready for IBI
If your child is eligible for IBI, an ASD Community Consultant will contact you before the start of IBI. You will begin working on skills that could improve your child’s learning.
Intensive Behaviour Intervention
IBI is a 1 to 3 year treatment that takes place in an IBI classroom or community setting. Treatment sessions occur Monday through Friday, typically 6 hours per day when your child is the most alert, well-rested and able to learn.
By working with your ASD Community Consultant 2 to 3 times per month, you will learn strategies to use at home to help your child maintain and generalize his/her skills.
