The Assistive Devices Program (ADP) may fund a portion of the equipment (max. of 75%) or all of the cost depending on whether or not you receive Social Assistance. Clients who are receiving social assistance ( i.e., ACSD, O.W., ODSP) are eligible for 100% funding. The ADP application will be completed by your therapists at your seating clinic appt. Funding for the remainding portion of the equipment needs to be determined before proceeding.

Who will pay for the non-ADP portion of the the equipment?

You can pay for it either in total or in part if other funding is available. First check to see if insurance is an option

1. Insurance may be an option if your child is covered under extended health beneifits through your employer. Policies differ so see if the wheelchair and/or "orthotic devices" are covered. Some will fund only if ADP also covers a portion. Check with your employer or benefits representative.

2. Easter Seal Society (ESS) can be approached by clients between birth and 18 years of age with physical disabilities who need special equipment. ADP funding is required where appropriate. You may be asked to cover a portion. Check with your Regional Easter Seal Office.
   
3. March of Dimes can be approached by clients 19 years of age and older. ADP funding is required where appropriate. Ask your seating therapist for an application if needed.
   
4. Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada (MDAC) funding is available to those who are registered with MDAC. ADP funding is required where appropriate. Other sources of funding may also be required.
   
5. Non-insured Health Benefits funding may be available for First Nations clients. ADP funding is required where appropriate.
   
6. Social Services - Special Assistance Dept. funding is sometimes available. ADP funding is required where appropriate. When both commercial equipment and custom seating are prescribed get funding for commercial equipment first. Ask for funding for custom seating later when you receive the approval for the commercial equipment.

When will my child receive their new equipment?

A fitting appointment is scheduled when you have confirmed your funding source. (You may be required to bring the voucher or the purchase order to the appt). The equipment that is being constructed at TVCC is fitted and any adjustments are made at this time. If a wheelchair or commercial seating has been prescribed, the fitting appt is booked when this equipment is delivered to TVCC.

What if there are problems with the seating after the fitting appointment?

Call your seating therapist immediately. A second fitting appt will be booked to ensure you are satisfied with the equipment.

When is the upholstery appointment booked?

When you are satisfied with the seating the equipment is upholstered. This appointment is booked several weeks after your fitting appointment.

What to do when you receive ADP approval?

You should receive the approval from ADP in about 8-12 weeks following the fitting appt. You will receive two forms (white and yellow) Send both of these to TVCC Seating and Mobility Service as they are needed for us to bill ADP. In the event that we do not receive the ADP approval from you, we will have to bill you for that portion, so please send it to us promptly.

When do you get a bill?

After the ADP approval is received by TVCC, the business office will send you or the funding source a bill . Please remit payment to the Business office at TVCC as soon as possible.
