When Do You Get The Equipment?

A fitting appointment will be booked at the time of the assessment, provided funding has been determined. Six weeks is the approximate waiting time between appointments. If commercially available components are prescribed, the fitting appointment will be booked when the equipment is delivered to TVCC. Wheelchairs are typically delivered within six to eight weeks from the time the order is placed. Seating systems and mobility bases are fitted at the same time to ensure that all the components fit and work together.

Fitting appointments require 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 hours. Adjustments generally need to be made to the equipment to ensure that the client has proper support and is comfortable. Instructions are given regarding the use, care and maintenance of the equipment. An upholstery appointment is booked, if required.

Do You Take The Equipment Home At The End Of The Fitting Appointment?

The equipment is taken out (unupholstered) for a trial period following the fitting appointment. The insert should be used for several weeks at home, therapy, daycare, school, work, etc.. If problems are identified during this trial period, adjustments to the insert can be made at a second fitting appointment. Please contact the Seating and Mobility Service secretary to arrange a second fitting appointment. If there are no problems with the fit of the insert, then no further appointment is necessary and the insert can be brought in for upholstering on the scheduled date. When the insert is brought in for upholstery, it is assumed that you are satisfied with the way the insert fits. Changes requested soon after upholstery may incur an additional charge.

How Long Will The Upholstering Take?

Upholstering an insert takes two working days. If you are unable to keep the upholstery appointment, please contact our secretary to arrange another appointment. We will not be able to upholster the insert without an appointment.

How Often Should Seating Be Reviewed?

An estimated review date set anywhere from nine to eighteen months after the fitting appointment will be recommended by the therapist. Please call to schedule an appointment for that time. If growth or posture changes are identified sooner, please contact our secretary at 685-8683 to make a seating clinic recheck appointment. It will be 4 to 6 weeks from the time you call until the appointment date so be sure to call as soon as you notice a problem. If there is wear or damage to the insert (e.g. worn straps) please contact the workshop technician to make an appointment.

Any problems with your mobility base should be directed to your dealer (where it was purchased).
