What Can You Do? 

Ability Connections Comments

Ability Connections is a group of young people with disabilities who through public speaking aim to increase public awareness of "Abilities" and "Possibilities".

Volunteers are needed to assist speakers with the development of their speech and to support speakers at public speaking engagements.

Meets the 1st Monday of each month. 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.; September - June

Monthly meetings, Presentations.
Monthly meetings, Ongoing support for presenters.

Clerical Support

Various departments request clerical support. Duties include filing, data entry, mailings, photocopying etc.

Position is appropriate for anyone looking to gain office skills or assisting staff during busier times.

Consistent half day weekly; Morning or afternoon
Communication Development

Supporting Speech Language Therapists by assisting with therapy sessions OR language groups providing an extra set of hands, and assisting to keep children on task.

Must enjoy young children, be patient and enthusiastic. Interest in language development.

2 hours weekly for 10 weeks as set by group time
Database Management

To assist with the management of the donor records database in Community Relations

One half day per week.


Interest and ability to work with Raiser’s Edge and MS Office Programs.

 

Family Swim

To interact with TVCC families to enhance their swim experience and assist the lifeguard when needed.

Ability to relate to children with disabilities and their families.

Saturdays 10am-12 noon; Wednesday evenings 6:30-8:00pm; Year round
Kids on the Block

Perform as a Kids on the Block puppeteer to facilitate awareness regarding ability and disability issues and / or teasing, bullying and school safety within London & Area elementary schools.

Training and practices as required. Volunteers are trained as puppeteers.

Must be available during daytime hours

Mail System

Sort and deliver mail within the center.

Opportunity to practice organizational and social skills. Colour identification required.

Pool Assistant

To assist families and clients during individual pool bookings in the TVCC pool. Assist with clients and siblings; participate in activities in the pool with the family.

As required.

Ability to relate to children with disabilities and their families.

Recreation Therapy

Assist children and youth with disabilities to enhance, confidence, independence and peer interaction. Various activities include sports, swimming, lifeskills, computers, arts & crafts.

Mature, ability to do lifting and handling, Some knowledge of the activity is an asset Programs are held at TVCC or within a community location.

Resources Assistant

Assist with the development and preparation of resource materials including making craft kits, computer tasks, typing, photocopying etc.

Resource Centre

To welcome clients as well as assist in the operation of the Resource Centre.

Good organizational skills, self-starter and some computer experience required.

Special Events

Variety of positions involved with special events such as assisting with the coordination of the event, set-up for event or volunteering at the event.

Sports Celebrity Dinner, Forest City Marathon, Bunny Bundle, Fashion Show, Holiday Home Tour

O.T.P. Summer Programs

Various summer programs involving sports/recreation, arts & crafts, lifeskills or computers.

Ability to work one-on-one with children and youth with disabilities Reliable and dependable.

Volunteer Services

Assisting Coordinator of Volunteer Services with projects related to recruitment, marketing, evaluation, supervision, training.

Interest in Volunteer Management.
