Spotlight on... Becky Alves

Sixteen year-old Becky Alves is a very special teenager. Becky is best known for her campaign to raise awareness of autism. She is a member of  the Ingersoll Kiwanis KEY (Kiwanis Educating Youth) Club and an active fundraiser.

Both of Becky's brothers, Alex and Todd were born with autism. As a result, they require a lot of extra care and attention. Both boys own dogs (named "Pepsi" and "Boomer") from Autism Dog Services (ADS) a non-profit organization currently led by Wade Beattie that provides support for children and youth with Autism. The dogs help Alex and Todd in their day-to-day life by keeping them safe and focused. They also provide companionship for the teens.

Megan Switzer haircutA Cut for a Cause
On April 17, 2010, eight-year-old Megan Switzer cut off 10 inches of her hair and donated it to Angel Hair for Kids, a program of A Child's Voice Foundation that provides wigs and hair loss solutions to financially disadvantaged children who have lost their hair due to a medical condition or treatment.
Megan also asked for donations in support of her initiative. Money was raised not only for Angel Hair for Kids, but also for Thames Valley Children's Centre.
Megan raised over $1,200 in donations, and $650 was donated to Thames Valley Children's Centre. A special thanks to Eskape Hair and Esthetics of Lambeth, Ontario who hosted the event.
