"My Olympic Torch Run"
In 2007 I was in a serious car crash. I was lucky to be alive. However, as a result of the crash I suffered a traumatic brain injury that kept me in hospital for 103 days. I had to relearn all of the basic functions that we all take for granted, like running, walking, reading and writing. During my recovery I stuck to my motto - "Never Give Up" and it was with this attitude that I carried the Olympic torch on December 22, 2009. I was one of the 12,000 Torchbearers who helped carry the torch through its 106 day trans-Canada journey. It's surreal to imagine that only a few years ago I woke up from a coma without any ability to walk and now I can say that I ran in one of the most important events of the decade. This was one of the greatest moments of my life.Submitted by Andrew (A.J) Fordham of Rodney, Ontario. Photograph courtesy of Greg King
