For 60 years, Thames Valley Children’s Centre (TVCC) has been helping children, youth and families to reach beyond disability. Established in 1949, as the London and District Crippled Children's Treatment Centre, what is now TVCC was born out of services provided at Woodeden Camp to children with infantile paralysis (polio).
Local Rotarians and other concerned citizens were determined to establish a comprehensive local pediatric rehabilitation facility. By 1951, the Centre had moved from the camp location and was operating out of its own facility on Hill Street next to the Children's Hospital. It was the first rehabilitation centre of its kind in the province. This economic climate is making it increasingly difficult to acquire corporate or major donors. It is a good time for TVCC and Community Relations to get back to our roots and focus on more “grass roots” fundraising and public relations initiatives. Remember the days of Bunny Bundle………? We are reaching out to our friends and TVCC family to help us raise awareness and funds for the Centre by holding small fundraising events with their family, friends, sports clubs, workplace or school. Some friends of TVCC who have already got the ball rolling on our “60 4 60” include:
What a difference a day makes : donate a day’s wage to TVCC and encourage others to do so. Movie Quote Quiz Party: collect quotes from songs or movies and see how many your friends can get right. Charge a small entry for the party or have a donation jar at the table. "Get your stinking paws off me you d### dirty Ape" (Said by Taylor, Charlton Heston in the Planet of the Apes) Host a dinner party and toast a nation! – sample the food, drink and music from another country for an evening. Go French with some vin et fromage, pizza and pasta from Italia OR if you are feeling a little daring… try a little Peruvian cuy! Bad Taste Day – Ask colleagues or fellow students to pay to express their bad taste. Have everyone come to work/school or go out in their worst tie, bad hair do or garish clothes. Those that refuse … pay a fine For more ideas and to get your own event started, go to our Community Events page. Get your family or group of friends together and have a brainstorming session. You are guaranteed to have a good time and raise money at the same time! |
